Movie Night Polls for Slack

Run /movienight create, drop in a few film titles, post the poll right in your channel. Buttons. Posters. Live tallies. Winner announcement. No tab-switching.

Hosting polls requires a Pro account. Anyone in the channel can vote — no account needed.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add the app

Click Add to Slack and approve the install for your workspace. Takes about 30 seconds.

  2. 2

    Link your account

Run /movienight link in any channel. The bot replies with a one-time URL — sign in to Movie Night Polls and you're set.

  3. 3

    Run /movienight create

A modal opens. Add a title and a list of films, one per line. Pick options like votes-per-person, unlisted, anonymous. Submit. The poll posts in the channel within a few seconds.

  4. 4

    Vote and close

Anyone clicks a movie button to vote. When you're ready, /movienight close picks a poll from your open list and announces the winner with a celebration message.

What the app does

  • Movie posters in chat

Each poll renders with a server-rendered poster strip — voters can actually see what they're picking before clicking.

  • Live tallies

Click a vote button and the message updates in place. No refresh, no separate results post.

  • Tie-breaker UI

When a poll closes in a tie, the bot offers the host a one-click resolver: crown one movie, or accept the tie.

  • Share into other channels

Use /movienight share to repost a poll into another channel. Closing once announces the result in every channel the poll appears.

  • Cross-platform attribution

If a voter has linked their Movie Night Polls account, their web votes and Slack votes are recognized as one person.

  • Same polls on the web

Every poll lives at movienightpolls.com too — manage, share, and revisit on any device.

FAQ

Do voters need a Movie Night Polls account?
No. Anyone in the channel can click vote buttons — voting is free for everyone. Only the person hosting the poll (running /movienight create) needs to link a Pro account.
What does Pro cost?
$9.99/month (or $99/year). Pro unlocks unlimited polls, private (unlisted) polls, dark mode, and chat-platform integrations like this Slack app.
Can I host more than one poll at a time?
Yes. Each /movienight create starts a new poll. Use /movienight close to wrap one up — the picker shows all your open polls.
What happens if a poll ties?
The bot replies (only to you) with a row of buttons: one per tied movie plus an Accept tie button. Click to crown a winner or post the tie publicly.
Can the same poll live in multiple channels?
Yes — /movienight share posts an existing poll into the current channel. Vote tallies stay in sync across every place the poll appears, and closing once announces the result everywhere.
What about private channels?
Invite the bot to a private channel with /invite @Movie Night Polls. Once invited, the bot can post and edit messages there normally.
What data does the app store?
Just the mapping between your Slack workspace + user ID and your Movie Night Polls account, plus the polls you create. See our privacy policy for full details.
