Closing a Poll
When voting is done, close your poll to lock in the results and announce the winner.
How to close voting
Go to your My Polls page. On any open poll, click the Close Voting button. A confirmation dialog will appear showing the current results.
Prefer to set it and forget it? Pro users can schedule a poll to close automatically at a set time — the winner is declared from the tally (co-winners on a tie) without you lifting a finger.
Declaring a winner
If there is a clear winner (one movie with the most votes), the dialog will show the winning movie and its vote count. Simply confirm to close the poll.
If there is a tie, you will be asked to select which of the tied movies to declare as winner(s). You can pick one or multiple tied movies as winners.
If no votes were cast, you can still close the poll. The dialog will let you know and ask for confirmation.
What voters see
Once closed, voters visiting the poll page will see a "Voting is now closed" message with a confetti celebration. The winning movie is displayed prominently, along with vote counts and runner-ups.
Closing from a chat bot
If your poll was posted from the Discord, Slack, or Telegram bot, you can also close from there: /movienight close on Discord and Slack, or /close in the Telegram bot's DM. The winner announcement posts to every chat the poll appears in. See the chat platforms overview for details.
Reopening a poll
Changed your mind? You can reopen a closed poll at any time. On your My Polls page, the button will say Re-open Voting on closed polls. Clicking it will open a confirmation dialog, and once confirmed, the poll will accept votes again.
