Chat Platforms Overview

Movie Night Polls runs as a bot or app on three chat platforms. Same polls, same posters, same winners — just delivered the way each platform expects.

Which platform should I use?

Use whichever one your group already lives in. The host experience differs platform-to-platform (modal vs. wizard, slash commands vs. direct messages) but the poll itself is the same.

Common features

Every platform supports:

• Up to 25 movies per poll (Pro), 6 (free)
• Server-rendered poster strip in poll messages
• One-click voting with live tallies
• Closing announces the winner with a celebration message
• Tie-breaker UI when a poll closes in a tie
• Sharing the same poll into multiple channels / chats
• Cross-platform vote sync for linked accounts
• Anonymous mode, unlisted mode, dark mode, votes-per-person setting

Discord

Slash-command driven. Run /movienight create and a modal opens with title, description, and movies fields. Poll options live as slash-command arguments. Vote buttons are numbered 1–25. Closes pick from autocomplete.

Slack

Slash-command driven, similar to Discord but using Slack's Block Kit modal and dropdown UI. Settings (votes-per-person, unlisted, anonymous, dark mode) live as form fields in the modal itself, not as command arguments.

Telegram

Wizard-style. Run /newpoll in a group and the bot DMs you to set up the poll privately (title, description, films, options as inline-keyboard toggles), then posts the finished poll back into the group. Voting uses inline keyboards. Account commands (/link, /unlink) are DM-only.

Voting across platforms

A poll posted on Discord can be shared into Slack channels and Telegram groups. Vote tallies stay in sync everywhere — closing the poll once announces the winner in every chat the poll appears in. Voters who've linked their account on one platform are recognized on every platform; unlinked voters are tracked per platform.

Pro is required for hosts

Creating polls on any chat platform requires a Pro account. Voting is free for everyone in the channel — voters never need to sign up or link. See Pro features and how linking works.
